ERIE, Pa. (WHTM) — A historic ship in Lake Erie will not set sail for the second consecutive summer.
The Flagship Niagara was expected to be back in the water for the tourism season. But it will stay docked again this summer, because of the challenges of meeting COVID safety guidelines.
While the ship is docked, the operators are taking their time making adjustments.
“So that we can get all of our certificates up to date so that we can sail, and if we are successful in doing that, fairly quickly, we might actually see you’re on the lake in the fall,” said Scott Nick, president of Flagship Niagara League Board.
The Flagship Niagara sailed in the battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. It’s one of the top tourist attractions in the area.
