UPDATE: Suspect in Franklin County vehicle fire caught by Chambersburg Police

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — An explosive vehicle fire erupted Thursday on the block of West Queen Street.

As Chambersburg Police and Fire Department officers arrived on the scene, tanks of oxygen ruptured inside the vehicle, causing a loud explosion and damage to a nearby building.

West Queen Street was temporarily closed while crews investigated and cleared the scene.

Investigators discovered the fire had been set by 37-year-old Jerry Townsend, who was taken into custody around 5:30 a.m. on Friday.

There were no injuries during the incident.
