2 charged with abuse of Harrisburg girl who ran out of school

Police have arrested the mother of an 8-year-old Harrisburg girl who was missing for hours after she ran out of her elementary school Friday morning.

Investigators said they found substantial bruises and injuries on the girl when she was treated at a hospital. They said they also found substantial bruises on the girl’s 11-year-old brother.

Tekicia Jones, 31, was arrested Monday on a felony charge of endangering the welfare of children.

Jones’s boyfriend, 45-year-old Kamau Crankfield (a.k.a. Jermaine Crankfield), is charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.

The girl ran out of Melrose School, in the 2000 block of Berryhill Street, around 9:20 a.m. Friday. School staff searched for the girl but were unable to find her.

She was cold, wet, and hungry when a woman in the 2200 block of Market Street found the girl on her back porch around 5 a.m. Saturday, police said.

The children have been placed in the care of other family members.
