All-clear given for Hershey homes, businesses evacuated for gas leak

Derry Township police are allowing people to return to dozens of homes and businesses that were evacuated for a gas leak.

Police gave the all-clear shortly before 2 p.m., more than three hours after a construction crew struck a gas line.

Power is being restored to the area. Electricity service had been shut off to prevent sparking a gas explosion.

Chocolate Avenue was temporarily closed between Valley Road and Cocoa Avenue while a UGI crew repaired the break. The roadway has since reopened.

The smell associated with gas was noticeable for several blocks after the construction crew hit the gas line around 10:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
