The only American Girl outlet store in the United States will open at the Tanger Outlets in Derry Township this summer.
The 2,200 square-foot store will open sometime in August, Tanger Outlets general manager Chuck Simmons said. An exact date has not been set.
“It’s one of the first concept stores in the country and we’re just excited they chose Tanger Outlets to partner with,” Simmons said. “We’re equally excited they chose the town of Hershey to launch what I believe is going to be an amazing store.”
The store will be in Suite 142, next to Vera Bradley.
Shoppers can expect to find excess and discontinued dolls, as well as clothing and accessories from various American Girl brands.
“It’s going to be overstock merchandise, overrun, discount merchandise, discontinued merchandise from their different suppliers, all of course with the American Girl brand,” Simmons said.
American Girl previously had an outlet store in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, but it closed in 2016.
American Girl, a subsidiary of Mattel, has 20 retail stores in the United States, but none are in Pennsylvania. The closest locations to Pennsylvania are in New York City and the suburbs of Washington, D.C.
The company says its 18-inch dolls, books, and accessories teach young girls important lessons about the role of women and girls in shaping our country.
The American Girl line currently features 11 characters and stories that span over 200 years, from 1764 to 1974.
American Girl says more than 30 million dolls have been sold through its catalogue, retail stores, and website since the dolls were released in 1986.
