The company that operates Brightwood Career Institute in Harrisburg and more than 75 other schools across the country has announced it is shutting down.
Education Corporation of America has five Brightwood Career Institute locations in Pennsylvania. Its schools also include Brightwood College, Ecotech Institute, Golf Academy of America, and Virginia College.
The company learned Tuesday that the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools had decided to withdraw, by suspension, grants of accreditation of all its schools.
The council cited several areas of concern, including student progress and outcomes, student satisfaction, certification and licensure, and staff turnover.
The council said it also considered the company’s “rapidly deteriorating financial conditions.”
Approximately 15,000 students were enrolled across all campuses.
