Woman dies in Harrisburg apartment fire

Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A 29-year-old woman died when a fire swept through her apartment over Queenie’s Cafe in Allison Hill, officials said.

The woman was cooking when the fire started late Wednesday. It appears she was overcome by smoke while trying to put out the flames because there was water was running in the apartment, Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline said.

Queenie’s Cafe, the Swatara Street bar under her apartment, was open at the time. Patrons tried to rescue the woman, who was found in her bedroom, Enterline said.

The woman’s name was not immediately released.

The fire heavily damaged the first floor of the building and gutted the second-floor apartment.

Enterline was not sure if the building would have to be torn down. He said damage is estimated at over $100,000.

No injuries were reported.
