As tax season approaches, the United Way and about two dozen other organizations are offering free tax preparation help for local families.
This is for low to moderate income families in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties.
The sessions will be happening from January 28 until April 15 at more than a dozen different sites and are made possible thanks to about 250 volunteers.
“A lot of families really struggle. They don’t understand taxes. They struggle with doing their own taxes, and this way they have someone who can guide them through it. There are a lot of tax credits available for low-income families,” said Heidi Neuhaus, director of the volunteer center at the United Way of the Capital Region.
This is through what’s called The Money in Your Pocket Campaign, funded by the Department of Treasury, IRS, and PNC Bank.
