A Harrisburg woman is charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment in the death of her 2-month-old son.

Eve L. Hallman, 20, ingested marijuana before co-sleeping with her baby on a couch. The infant became positioned underneath her and suffocated under her weight, police said.

Hallman’s son died Nov. 26 after police were called to her home in the 2400 block of Reel Street for a report of an infant not breathing. Officers performed CPR until an ambulance arrived and took the baby to a hospital.

An investigation showed the child died of complications from asphyxia.

Police said the home was filthy and unsanitary, and approximately 16 people were living there at the time of the incident.

Custody of Hallman’s other child, a 1-year old, was given to a family member. Hallman was granted supervised visits and was required to follow a safety plan, but police said she was not complying with that safety plan so charges were filed against her.

She was arraigned on the felony charges last week and placed in Dauphin County Prison on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 18.
