Harrisburg, Pa. - In the past 14 years, Stephanie Grossnickle has fostered over 700 dogs, taking them into her Harrisburg home until they can find forever homes.
"We call her St. Stephanie, because she is such a special person," says a fellow volunteer with Furry Friends Network.
President and Co-Founder of Furry Friends Network, Robin Scherer says, "We have no one who has dedicated themselves, and their yard and home like she has."
To reward Stephanie's dedication, volunteers, with the help of Utopia Landscapes, surprised Stephanie with a newly landscaped backyard. They wanted to do an Earth Day project that had something to do with dogs.
"14 years ago, our backyard was completely covered with grass," Stephanie's husband Ellis told abc27. New dirt, new grass and even a new fence were installed so that the dogs would have a place to run and play.
When Stephanie returned home from work just after 1 p.m., she was moved to tears, as she saw the work that had been done on her yard. "It looks very different," she said. "It's overwhelming, and I just cant believe this."
