The Harrisburg Bureau of Police is gearing up for the fall session of its citizens police academy.
The academy is an eight-week course that gives city residents and non-residents a behind-the-scenes look at the police department and the justice system.
Corporal Joshua Hammer said it’s more than just a classroom experience.
“They get to understand what officers go through and sometimes go on ride-alongs and get to see a shift in action,” Hammer said.
The next session will run from Sept. 19 to Nov. 28. The academy is free and will be held once a week on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m.
People must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
