Hometown Hero : 3.2 To Protect The Blue

Harrisburg

It’s an effort to keep Harrisburg police safe.

A group of UPMC Pinnacle nurses is spearheading the “3.2 to Protect the Blue” 5K on City Island on June 14 at 6 p.m.

The group decided to hold the fundraising event to provide heavy duty trauma vests to Harrisburg police officers.

The group spoke with Police Commissioner Tom Carter.

“He said that they wanted to look into that after recent events in the city and the officers really wanted to have an additional layer of protection, and that’s what he wanted for them, too,” said Nicole Gautsch, a nurse manager for UPMC Pinnacle.

The group needs $15,000.00 for the protective gear.
