I-81 South reopens after fatal crash at Grantville, Hershey

Harrisburg

A section of Interstate 81 north of Harrisburg has reopened after a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer and a box truck.

A PennDOT spokesman said all southbound lanes reopened around 11:40 a.m.

State police said an adult male died in the crash at mile marker 80, at the exit for Route 743 to Hershey and Grantville. The man’s name was not immediately released.

The box truck apparently struck the back of the tractor-trailer.

The other driver was not injured.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m.

Trooper Brent Miller, a state police spokesman, cautioned drivers to be careful in this weather.

Today we have rain and fog that is affecting the interstate and we’ve had multiple crashes, two involving tractor-trailers, and now we have the fatal crash involving two commercial vehicles,” Miller said.

No other details were immediately available.
