Man arrested for purse robbery in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - A Harrisburg man was arrested for robbery and other crimes after he grabbed a woman and stole her purse, police said.

Victor D. Steele, 56, also is charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The woman told police she was catering an event in the 700 block of North Third Street and loading her vehicle with items from the event early Saturday when a blue SUV stopped in the roadway. She said a man got out of the SUV and told her he had a gun.

When she tried to flee, she said the man grabbed her, ripped her purse away from her and then fled.

Witnesses gave responding officers a description of the SUV and Steele was stopped in a blue Ford Explorer. Police said he refused to comply with the officers' commands and advanced on them before he was tasered and arrested.

Officers searched him and found a crack pipe, police said.

Steele later admitted to the robbery and told officers where to find the stolen purse. The victim identified him as the robber, police said.
