Man solicited wife’s murder from prison, officials say

A former Middletown man jailed on charges he assaulted his wife is facing new charges he tried to have her killed, Dauphin County prosecutors said.

Leroy N. Vencak Jr. 32, solicited another person for the murder and sent a letter from Dauphin County Prison that provided details about his wife, their children, and their home, the district attorney’s office said.

Vencak initially denied sending the letter but confessed when detectives told him it would be tested for his DNA, authorities said.

According to the criminal complaint, Vencak told detectives he considered his wife a “rat” because she spoke to police and refused to drop the charges against him.

Vencak was awaiting trial for aggravated assault, strangulation, and related charges. He is being held at the prison without bail.

The district attorney’s office said it alerted Vencak’s wife when it learned of the murder plot so that she could relocate while the investigation proceeded.
