Change for the better is coming to the Interstate 83 construction project near Colonial Park.
PennDOT plans to open the new portion of the northbound exit ramp at Exit 50 where it connects at the new traffic signal on Route 22.
The change will come early next week if the weather cooperates.
The connection at the new traffic signal will finally allow drivers to turn left onto westbound Route 22, locally known as Jonestown Road.
Right now, drivers must first travel east to the jug handle turn at Colonial Road to turn back onto westbound Route 22.
When the new ramp opens, the jug handle turn will be closed for reconstruction. Drivers will need to move to the far left turn lane of eastbound Route 22 to turn left (onto Colonial Road.
Also, I-83 traffic in both directions will be shifted to the right near the interchange, perhaps as early as Monday night.
That will give workers the room to finish construction of the pier for the new Route 22 bridge over I-83 and install a permanent concrete barrier in the median.
