HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Police have released the name of a Harrisburg high school student who was killed in an apparent shooting Wednesday afternoon.
Donnell Williams, 15, was found dead when officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of Bellevue Road around 4:20 p.m.
Police said their investigation is ongoing, and they did not announce any arrests during a news conference on Thursday.
They said family members were in the home when they arrived.
"I saw an 11-year-old girl last night who was scared to death," police Chief Thomas Carter said. "She does not deserve to go through what she is going through."
High schools in the Harrisburg district were closed Thursday, citing the "tragic death of a high school student. Police said they were not consulted and gave no advice regarding that decision.
"This tells me that there was a serious problem out there, for them to close the school district," Carter said. "We have had other high school students that have been tragically killed, but the school never shut down."
Carter is calling on people to take action.
"I am asking for all interested leaders in the city, anybody who is willing to help us take Harrisburg back, to take Harrisburg High School system back so that the kids can go to school and not worry about being targeted," he said.
