Route 283 between Harrisburg and Lancaster will see changes overnight.
There will be new eastbound traffic patterns on six miles between the Turnpike and Tollhouse Road interchanges, starting at 8 p.m.
Route 283 carries about 56,000 cars and trucks every day.
“It’s a very busy stretch between Lancaster and Harrisburg, especially if you’re going to the airport, going to the Capitol,” PennDOT spokesman Mike Crochunis said.
As part of PennDOT’s $89.4-million project, a section of 283 westbound was reconstructed last year. Now, it’s time to do the same for the eastbound lanes.
“When 283 East splits, we’ll have an express lane in the westbound portion of the highway and the eastbound lane will then move toward the median and the space to the right of that will be the work area to reconstruct the eastbound lanes,” Crochunis said.
Traffic will be shifted early next week.
