Shipoke residents keep a wary eye on Susquehanna River

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Some residents of Harrisburg's Shipoke neighborhood say they've started moving furniture and other items out of their basements as the Susquehanna River continues to rise.

The river is forecast to crest near 18.3 feet Friday morning. Flood stage is 17 feet.

If the river stays below 20 feet, Shipoke won't be affected.

Jane Whitaker, a Shipoke resident for 20 years, said she is prepared for whatever happens but not worried by the forecast.

"The big floods were a result of a tropical storm or a hurricane, and this is not that," Whitaker said. "This is not my first flood rodeo, so I know what to do and I know what to watch for, so I am not worried yet,"
