Steelton may lower penalties on people caught with small amounts of marijuana.
The borough council is considering a plan similar to one approved by Harrisburg last year. The city issues a $75 fine for the first two offenses, but a third-strike is still a misdemeanor charge.
“If we decriminalize some of it, we will not have a lot of people in jail for no reason,” Steelton councilor Keontay Hodge said. “It will keep people employed and we will be able to combat a lot of tax issues as well.”
