Student set fire at Harrisburg school; second in 2 days

A Harrisburg school was evacuated for a small fire Wednesday morning for the second time in as many days.

Harrisburg School District spokeswoman Kirsten Keys said the small fire at Rowland Academy was set in a trash can by a student around 11:30 a.m.

On Tuesday, another student set a small fire in a boys restroom on the second floor.

In both incidents, the students who set the fires were quickly identified.

Asia Taylor said her 10-year-old son had to stand out in the cold while fire crews responded. She’s annoyed she wasn’t notified in a timely manner.

“I’ve been to the school district more than five or six times about my contact information and not being made aware of things when things are happening,” Taylor said.

Keys said the district notified parents with automated phone calls, but only after administrators had information from building officials and first responders.
