Parts of Schuylkill County that flooded last month were under water again after Sunday’s heavy rain.
The county’s emergency management agency reported high waters in Pine Grove and Tremont, as well as Port Carbon, Pottsville, Frackville, Gilberton, Tower City, and St. Clair.
In Tremont and Pine Grove, firefighters rescued several drivers who became stranded in the overflowing Swatara Creek.
Pine Grove Borough declared a state of emergency and asked people to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
Some residents in low lying areas were evacuated and taken to temporary shelters.
Pine Grove opened a shelter at its high school with help from the American Red Cross.
