An armed man was shot and killed by police after he opened fire outside the Manheim Township Police Department in Lancaster County on Tuesday.

The district attorney’s office says the man had a shotgun when he came to the police station at 1825 Municipal Drive just before 3 p.m. He fired at least two shots before one officer returned fire.

The man has not been identified. Authorities said he is a resident of the county.

No police officers were injured.

Investigators have not said why the man was at the police station or why he fired the gun.

The district attorney’s office is investigating and will determine whether the police use of force was justified.
