1 killed, 1 injured in Route 30 wrong-way crash

Lancaster

A Lancaster County man died and another person was injured in a wrong-way crash on Route 30 late Thursday.

The district attorney’s office said the 56-year-old man was driving a Pontiac coupe east in the westbound lanes when he collided head-on with a Hyundai SUV.

The crash happened near Prospect Road in West Hempfield Township just before midnight.

Authorities did not immediately release the man’s name. They said it appears he was traveling west then made a U-turn in York County, just west of the Wright’s Ferry Bridge, and traveled east for about five miles before the collision.

The other driver, a 32-year-old Wrightsville woman, is hospitalized with injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or what happened before it should call West Hempfield police at 717-285-5191.
