The American Cancer Society of Lancaster County held a “Talk Derby to Me” fundraiser Thursday. The theme was to get community members excited about the Kentucky Derby while giving to a good cause.
About 150 people brought out their hats and bow ties to enjoy games, food and a silent auction.
“I don’t know anybody who hasn’t been touched in some way by cancer,” said Melissa Rotay, an organizer of the event. “You’ve had it. You’ve known somebody’s who’s had it. You’ve helped somebody fight it. You’ve lost someone because of it. I can’t think of a better organization.”
Organizers expect to raise a few thousand dollars.
