LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) - Authorities have released the name of a man found dead in Lancaster County over the weekend.
Ronel Villanueva-Mejias, 48, was found Saturday morning in a field along the 2100 block of New Danville Pike in Pequea Township.
Villaneva-Mejias had been released from the Lancaster County Prison on Friday, just hours before he was found dead, according to prison officials.
An autopsy Monday showed no visible signs of trauma or injury. Investigators are waiting for toxicology test results to determine the cause and manner of death.
"Possible substances in his body played a factor in his death or perhaps not," said Brett Hambright, a spokesman for the district attorney's office. "We're still looking into everything."
The district attorney's office is also looking into how Villanueva-Mejias ended up in the field. They believe someone may have driven him there.
Hambright said investigators found tire marks near the body.
"We want to know obviously what caused his death," Hambright said. "(We also want to know) who he was with and what those individuals did as far as taking him to the site where he was found."
