The Lancaster County coroner’s office has released the name of a man who was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train over the weekend.

Michael E. Salm Jr., 38, of Manor Township, died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries and the manner of death is accidental, coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said.

Salm was walking away from the train when he was struck in Conestoga Township early Sunday. A Norfolk Southern spokesman said the train crew sounded the whistle and bells and applied the braking system.

The 5,961-foot-long train was transporting 98 rail cars, including 95 empties, from Delaware to Enola.
