REAMSTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – A Florida truck driver failed to stop for traffic in a Route 222 construction zone, causing a four-vehicle crash that killed a Reading woman and closed the southbound lanes for several hours, police said.
State police identified the woman killed as 57-year-old Evelyn Nazario. She was driving a Pontiac G6, the first car struck by the tractor-trailer near the East Church Street overpass near Reamstown.
The tractor-trailer then collided with a Dodge van occupied by a woman and her child and a Ford F-150 pickup before leaving the roadway and striking a tree. The truck driver, a 53-year-old Florida man, was traveling with his juvenile son, police said. All five occupants of those vehicles were transported for medical treatment.
The crash at 8:30 a.m. closed all southbound lanes between the Turnpike interchange and the exit for Brownstown and Rothsville. Route 222 South reopened after 6 p.m.
Police said any charges will be made after consulting with the district attorney’s office.
