There are some people who would say Howard Avenue has stories to tell.
Mayor Danene Sorace is one of those people.
“Howard Avenue has a rich history,” Sorace said.
Howard Avenue is the street where city officials are focusing their efforts to fight blight and strengthen neighborhoods.
“We will also do facade improvements and streetscape improvements,” Sorace said.
The efforts will be a lot easier thanks to a $25,000 grant the city was just awarded.
The city is one of 10 recipients of this year’s Love Your Block Awards.
Sorace said the revitalization efforts help with something she is adamant about, which is spreading the success of downtown Lancaster to surrounding areas.
“We can respond to priorities that the neighbors have to do the kind of improvements they want to see,” she said.
Sorace warned that the money won’t pay for complete sidewalk renovations or street repairs. However, she said it should help with projects that help Howard Avenue tell its story.
The grant also created two jobs through AmeriCorps, but those jobs will be based out of Lancaster City Hall.
