Hospital cited for handling of sexual assault claims

Lancaster

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health has formed a legal and management team to ensure all investigations are complete and timely.

It happened after a surprise visit to Lancaster General Hospital from the state Department of Health in September, following sexual assault allegations against an employee.

According to a state report, the hospital said the assault claim was unfounded. However, police later charged Shawn Moyer, a pulmonary therapist, and the hospital placed him on administrative leave.

Moyer is accused of inappropriately touching an unconscious patient.

The report also states that while looking into the claim, state investigators learned of three other abuse claims which apparently were never reported.

The Health Department says the facility did not have a system in place to make sure investigations were thorough.

The hospital’s approved action plan also involves developing a tracking tool to document each step of its investigation.
