Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman has followed through on his threat to sue the county’s board of commissioners.
A lawsuit Stedman filed in Commonwealth Court says the commissioners embarked on a two-part plan to encroach upon the independent powers of his office.
The district attorney says the commissioners are attempting to interfere in his use of drug forfeiture funds, and with his statutory rights to control human resource matters within his office.
Commissioners have questioned Stedman’s use of the drug forfeiture funds to lease an SUV.
Stedman has insisted he has done nothing improper. He says the commissioners’ comments are ruining his reputation.
The district attorney threatened to sue last week unless the commissioners retracted their statements and stopped investigating his use of the funds.
