A Bainbridge man is headed to trial for a DUI crash that killed a Mount Joy man last month.

Brian Knowles, 37, waived a preliminary hearing Friday and was ordered to court on third-degree murder, vehicular homicide while DUI, and related charges.

Knowles drove his pickup truck into oncoming traffic on Route 441 in East Donegal Township on Jan. 15. Joseph G. Zito, 56, was killed when the pickup struck his Honda SUV.

Susquehanna Regional police and the Lancaster County district attorney’s office say testing after the crash revealed Knowles had a blood-alcohol level of .31 percent, nearly four times the legal limit,

The investigation also showed Knowles took a Breathalyzer test at home a few minutes before driving.

The test revealed his blood-alcohol content was far beyond the legal limit, but Knowles drove anyway, the district attorney’s office said.
