Man headed trial for killing partner in Lancaster Township

Lancaster

A man is headed to trial on charges he fatally stabbed his partner in a Lancaster Township home last month.

Matthew M. VanZandt, 30, waived a preliminary hearing on Monday over the killing of 31-year-old Ian Shannon.

Shannon, 31, was repeatedly stabbed March 6 inside his Dickens Drive home.

VanZandt, a Monroe County man who had been staying at VanZandt’s home, walked into an Allentown hospital covered in blood and told hospital staff he stabbed his boyfriend to death, according to the criminal complaint.

VanZandt told police that Shannon was mocking him for wanting to end their relationship. He said when Shannon continued to mock him, he pulled out his pocket knife and stabbed Shannon several times in the face, neck, and body.
