Man ordered to trial to providing fentanyl-laced drug in fatal overdose

Lancaster

A Lancaster County man is headed to trial on allegations he provided a fentanyl-laced prescription drug to a 23-year-old woman who died of an overdose last summer.

Ryan Hughes, 20, waived a preliminary hearing Friday on charges of drug delivery resulting in death and criminal use of a communication facility.

The district attorney’s office said cellphone conversations revealed Hughes invited the woman to his East Lampeter Township home and was to provide her Xanax, a prescription medication to treat anxiety.

Lab testing determined the powdery substance Hughes provided was laced with other substances, including fentanyl and heroin.

Hughes remains in Lancaster County Prison on $750,000 bail.
