LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – Police in Lancaster say one man died following a daytime shooting on Howard Avenue.

Investigators say the shooting happened around 11 a.m. A woman who did not want to be identified said she was in the area at the time.

“I heard one gunshot,” the woman said. “I saw a woman walking up the street yelling: ‘He shot him. He shot him. Oh my God, he shot him. Someone call 911. Oh my God. Help!'”

Police said the man was shot while he was inside a car at the Hillside Apartments.

The School District of Lancaster said three schools – King Elementary, George Washington, and Edward Hand Middle School – were placed on brief lockdowns.

Police said they would be looking through security footage to see if the shooting was captured on camera.

Police Lt. Bill Hickey said they are also trying to learn more about the victim.

“Hopefully, anybody that knew or talked to him, so we can get a picture of what led up to this event,” Hickey said.

Hickey said based on preliminary information, police are looking for one suspect.
