Emma Moyer has to ask a lot of questions and do a lot of talking as a host, server, and busser at The Grille.
On Tuesday, the Millersville University junior didn’t have to say a thing when she noticed something was wrong with a regular at the campus restaurant.
“I just saw her choking and I reacted quickly and used my reflexes,” Moyer said.
The Heimlich maneuver wasn’t on the menu, but it saved the customer from choking on a salad.
“It was pretty simple. She was coughing and then after a couple times, she was able to breathe again,” Moyer said.
The customer Moyer saved happens to be a distinguished former professor. Her name is on a building.
“She was very grateful at everything and very thankful that I was here to help,” Moyer said.
Moyer was honored for her life-saving actions on Thursday.
“I’m still kind of in shock that it all happened,” she said. “I’m just very grateful that I was there to help.”
