Police find bank robbery suspect as he fixes flat tire


EPHRATA, Pa. (WHTM) – A Lancaster man was charged with robbing an Ephrata bank less than an hour after the crime after officers saw him changing a flat tire on his getaway car, police said.

Gordon C. Irons, 32, is accused of robbing the Ephrata National Bank at 42 East Main Street shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Irons did not display a weapon and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators obtained a description and photographs of the suspect. Around 1:30 p.m., officers saw someone matching the description fixing a flat tire at the Sheetz in Ephrata Township.

Irons was charged with robbery and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He was then arraigned and placed in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $250,000 cash bail.
