LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) - Five months after a massive hole opened at the Tanger Outlets, there are some answers as to why the hole appeared.
East Lampeter Township officials this week approved construction plans to fix the hole, and part of the plans say the hole was caused by a stormwater management system that failed.
Eight vehicles were stranded when the hole opened at the outlets along Route 30 in August.
"It was kind of scary," said Deborah Butterworth, who was shopping at Tanger Outlets on Wednesday. "[I was] thinking it could have been us because we had been here a week beforehand."
Tanger management said the hole, which spread to 150 parking spaces, opened in an area where the outlets expanded in 2017. General manager Monica Trego said repair work could start as soon as next month.
Township manager Ralph Hutchison said he is confident the problem is contained to the outlets.
