A Lancaster County man is headed to trial on charges he shot a man in the chest and then in the head the next day, twice leaving the victim for dead.
Robert Sheets, 31, was ordered to court on two counts of attempted murder and related charges of robbery and aggravated assault after a preliminary hearing this week.
The victim told police that Sheets shot him in August 2017 while the two were in a wooded area near Main Street in Conestoga. When he awoke the next morning and yelled for help, he said Sheets returned upset that he was not dead and shot him again.
The victim said the next time he awoke, he walked through a cornfield until he found a home. Police were called and the victim was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound that lacerated his lung and another that shattered his jaw, according to the criminal complaint.
The man told police that Sheets stole his wallet with about $400 and his cell phone after the first shooting.
Sheets, of Quarryville, remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $1 million cash bail. A formal arraignment is scheduled for April 26.
