Taxi driver charged with rape of passenger

Lancaster

A Lancaster taxicab driver is accused of raping a woman after driving her to her Leola apartment.

Jesus J. Rosario, 52, is charged with rape, sexual assault, and related charges.

The woman told East Lampeter Township police that she used a taxi to get from Lancaster to her apartment on the early morning of July 31. She said the driver followed her into her apartment and assaulted her.

Police said the driver was identified as Rosario.

According to charging documents, audio and video recordings from the cab revealed the woman did not say or do anything that showed she had any interest in Rosario, but that he invited himself into her apartment under the guise of helping her carry her things.

Rosario changed his story several times when interviewed, from claiming he had no contact with the woman to admitting sexual contact, police said.

He was arraigned Monday and then released on $150,000 unsecured bail.

Yellow Cab confirmed Rosario worked there four years as an independent contractor. A manager said Rosario “will not be driving” pending the outcome of the case.
