An Ephrata woman is charged after an infant in her care ingested heroin, police said.

Brittany Ruth, 28, is charged with a felony count of endangering the welfare of children.

Ephrata police said the child ingested heroin at an Ephrata Township home in late July and the department received notification through the ChildLIne system when Ruth took the child to a hospital for treatment.

Ruth was arraigned Friday and released on $50,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21.
