Woman pleads guilty to debarking dogs

Lancaster

An Iowa woman has avoided more prison time for illegally debarking four dogs in Lancaster County.

Denise L. Felling, 55, received a sentence of time served to 23 months after pleading guilty December 20 to eight felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty, according to court records.

Felling was jailed after her arrest on November 30.

Prosecutors said Felling debarked dogs in Quarryville and Kinzers by shoving a rod-like object into their vocal chambers.

Felling represented herself as a veterinarian to a Lancaster County woman who owned the dogs, but she never obtained a veterinarian license in Pennsylvania.

Her veterinarian license in Iowa has been revoked.
