Young girl seriously injured in pedestrian crash

BIRD-IN-HAND, Pa. (WHTM) - A 19-month-old girl was struck by a pickup truck after she apparently wandered onto a Lancaster County roadway while playing in the snow with siblings, police said.

Police said the girl was struck in the 200 block of Monterey Road in Upper Leacock Township at 6:15 p.m. Monday.

She suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Lancaster General Hospital. She was then transferred to Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital where she was listed in serious but stable condition, police said.

Investigators do not believe speed is a factor in the crash. They said the pickup driver was able to come to a controlled stop immediately after impact.

The driver called 911 and helped to provide care for the child until EMS and police arrived, police said.
