Lawmaker calls for random drugs tests in House, Senate

A Pennsylvania House representative has introduced legislation that would require random drug testing for all state lawmakers.

State Rep. Angel Cruz says he offered his proposal, House Bill 620, as an amendment to Senate Bill 6, a measure that would require drug testing of people who receive public assistance benefits.

“The only way I will support drug testing for public assistance benefits is if we, the elected officials, are included in this testing,” Cruz said.

The Philadelphia Democrat says state lawmakers should lead by example since they also receive money from taxpayers.

“If you want transparency in government, then you have nothing to hide,” he said. “I’m rolling up my sleeve. I’m ready.”
