DA: Treasurer stole $53K from youth sports clubs

Lebanon

A Lebanon woman is accused of embezzling more than $50,000 from youth sports organizations for children in the Cornwall-Lebanon School District.

Wendy Jo Bartal, 40, was charged Wednesday on two felony counts and a misdemeanor count of theft by unlawful taking. She was released on unsecured bail after arraignment.

Bartal is accused of stealing $38,318.37 from the Ebenezer Youth Soccer Club, $12,368.45 from the Falcons Girls Soccer Parents Club, and $1,576 from the Friends of Falcons Football Club while serving as treasurer.

Police and county detectives reviewed four years of bank and club records after one of the organizations reported bookkeeping irregularities in August.

Lebanon County District Attorney Dave Arnold said the investigators discovered that Bartal issued checks to herself, withdrew cash from club bank accounts, and kept money from concession stand sales for her personal use.

He said Bartal has since repaid all of the money to law enforcement.
