Employee dies in van explosion at trucking company

Lebanon

An employee died when a van exploded Wednesday morning at a trucking company in Lebanon County.

Police identified the employee as 65-year-old Stephen Miller, of Lebanon.

Miller had followed another employee to a back parking lot at JP Donmoyer, at 10603 Allentown Boulevard in Ono. The other employee planned to hook a truck tractor to a tanker and get a ride back to the building with Miller.

Miller was parked next to the truck tractor when the van exploded around 9:30 a.m., a state police spokesman said.

The truck driver, 69-year-old Michael Floyd of Harrisburg, was getting out of the truck tractor at the time of the blast. He had shrapnel injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the utility van contained an air compressor, welding equipment, and an oxygen tank.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting state police in the investigation.
