A teacher at Lebanon Middle School is charged with having a gun on school property.
Chad Thomas, 41, of North Lebanon Township, had the legally owned handgun in his backpack when he entered the school on April 12, police said.
A school custodian found the backpack containing the gun while cleaning Thomas’s office after school hours.
He told investigators he forgot the gun was in the backpack.
School administrators said at no time were staff or students in harm’s way. They said the gun was stored in a protective case, and proper protocols were followed when it was found.
In a statement on its website, administrators said Thomas will remain removed from all district buildings indefinitely “until it has a better understanding of how legal proceedings may conclude.”
