Police officers employed by Pennsylvania’s airports and universities would have the power to act outside their jurisdictions under a bill awaiting Gov. Tom Wolf’s signature.
House Bill 1738 cleared the Legislature last week.
The measure would allow any fully certified and trained officer and agents of the state attorney general’s office to answer a call for help from another department or pursue an offender into another jurisdiction.
Currently, only police officers employed by a municipality have that power.
Rep. Ron Marsico’s (R-Dauphin) said his proposal will improve public safety.
If signed by the governor, the law would take effect in 60 days.
