Middletown’s Mayor, James Curry talked about the charges filed against former Borough Police Chief, George Mouchette.
Mayor Curry says the Borough’s Police Department has never been stronger.
Curry also addressed allegations that Mouchette was not properly vetted. He says Mouchette went through extensive state and FBI background checks.
Curry says that will be the same process used when hiring officers moving forward.
He also says despite the department having seven chiefs in eight years, it is stable and well-respected by the community.
“You have to roll with the punches and we certainly have taken our share, but that’s what’s so great about Middletown,” said Mayor Curry. “This is a resilient community, it’s a resilient police department and I can not allow someone who is no longer serving to control the narrative and try to create a political football out of the brave people who serve our community day in and day out .”
The Mayor also said he fully supports the interim Chief Dennis Morris, who was fired in 2014 for “workplace misconduct” and then reinstated last year.
