Muslims across the midstate gathered at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg today for a religious holiday.
This is Eid al-Adha, or “The Feast of Sacrifice.” The event mirrors the Christian story of Abraham and Isaac, where God instructed the father to kill his son, and stops him before making the sacrifice.
Tiffany Chang Lawson works in Governor Tom Wolf’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs. She says the event has grown a lot in a very short time.
“This is pretty historic for the commonwealth because for the last 2 years, it’s the first time a Muslim community has organized such a large event here locally at a state-owned complex,” said Chang Lawson.
As many as 3,000 Muslims attended today’s event.
